Hi, thanks for your question!

Yes what happened is you overcharged the battery. You can get a new battery here.

Also to make sure it doesn't happen again is to buy a smart charger.

Smart chargers cut off power to the battery when it is fully charged.

You can get this here. This is the charger that I use. It will work for most batteries including the one listed above.
